Relive the magic of Baywatch’s comedic Slowmo Marathon promotional event

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Quick, somebody cue up the CHARIOTS OF FIRE theme song by Vangelis. Oh, but before you do, can you slow is down by about 800%? There, that's perfect for what you're about to see. On April 22nd, the world was introduced to an evolution in the field of sport. A marathon, but a marathon like no other – The Baywatch SlowMoMarathon, a grueling 0.3km that must be run entirely in slow motion. No, we're not kidding.

Check out the footage Alex Rubin's (MURDERBALL) short film below:

For real, this had me cracking up, just now. There are so many amazing facial expressions to be found on the people involved in the "running" of this race. Check out the dude in the Katy Perry shark costume as he careens into a nearby refreshment table, or the out-pouring of agonizing emotion courtesy of the race's second place participant. Though my favorite aspect of this event is that, in the end, it was all in the spirit of fun. Okay, so there was a heavy promotional angle to it for the BAYWATCH film as well, but hey, don't sour the mood, man.

BAYWATCH, directed by Seth Gordon, follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Jon Bass, Kelly Rohrbach, and Ilfenesh Hadera.

BAYWATCH opens in theaters nationwide on Thursday, May 25, 2017.
