The Marvel movie AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR had been scheduled to come out on May 4th, so the Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson movie RAMPAGE was feeling pretty comfortable with its April 20th release date. The movie would have two weeks to draw viewers in to see its giant animal shenanigans before the Avengers showed up at the box office to take all the money away. But last week, Disney moved the release of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR forward one week, to April 27th.
Seeing the Avengers moving in on them, RAMPAGE distributor Warner Bros. said "Oh hell no" and moved the release of their movie forward as well.
RAMPAGE is now set to reach theatres on April 13th, again giving it a two week window before AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR joins it in multiplexes.
Based on the classic 1980s arcade game, RAMPAGE stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as
primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
Johnson is joined in the cast by Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, P.J. Byrne, Marley Shelton, Joe Manganiello, Jake Lacy, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, and Matt Gerald.
The film was directed by Brad Peyton from a screenplay by Ryan Engle, Carlton Cuse, Ryan Condal, and Adam Sztykiel.
