Summit Entertainment has announced release dates for a couple of their films. One I'm quite excited for, the other, well to be honest I had no clue a sequel to THE MECHANIC was in the works.
First up though is Ariel Vromen's (THE ICEMAN) CRIMINAL, which has a great cast that includes Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Ryan Reynolds, Tommy Lee Jones, Gal Gadot and Alice Eve. Written by THE ROCK and DOUBLE JEOPARDY screenwriters Douglas Cook and David Weisberg, the action thriller will follow "a dangerous prison inmate who has a dead CIA operative's memories, secrets and skills implanted into him in hopes he'll stop a diabolical plot," and will open on August 21, 2015.
2011's THE MECHANIC received decent reviews (for a Jason Statham flick anyway) but only managed to gross a little over $30 million in domestic theaters, with a budget of $40 million. But it did decent numbers worldwide ($60 million) and DVD sales must have been solid, because it's getting a sequel.
MECHANIC: RESURRECTION will be in theaters on January 22, 2016, with Jason Statham reprising his role from the first movie, and it will also star Jessica Alba, Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Yeoh. So what will Statham's Arthur Bishop be up to in the sequel?
When someone from his past forces him back into the business, Bishop has to complete an impossible list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world.
