A couple of release dates for two upcoming films have been announced, and both are a little surprising.
The first one is for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and it comes from Deadline: the George Miller film will hit theaters on May 15th, 2015. Many assumed the movie would be in theaters sometime in 2014, but possibly because of the recent reshoots, it looks like we won't be seeing Tom Hardy as the titular character for another year and a half. Right now, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the only film being released on that date, but it will face some stiff competition with THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON out two weeks before on May 1st, and Brad Bird's TOMORROWLAND with George Clooney is scheduled to roll into theaters a week after on May 22nd.
A sequel to THE PURGE was announced almost immediately after its first weekend in theaters, and now we know when the next film will hit screens, thanks to The Wrap: June 20th, 2014. That's only seven months from now, but Universal still hasn't announced a cast for the film. The first movie was incredibly profitable for the studio, and I'm sure they want to release the sequel as soon as possible, but I hope the short time they have to work on the project doesn't impact the quality of the film.
