I have heard a lot about episodes like The National Anthem, San Junipero, and USS Callister, but I still have to get around to actually watching the Netflix anthology series Black Mirror, which was created by Charlie Brooker. A fifth season of the show is on the way, but first Netflix will be releasing a Black Mirror feature film this Friday, December 28th.
The film is titled BLACK MIRROR: BANDERSNATCH, and a day before its release a trailer has dropped online.
BANDERSNATCH is shrouded in secrecy, but we do know that it was directed by 30 DAYS OF NIGHT's David Slade (who previously directed the Black Mirror episode Metalhead) and it tells a story set
in 1984. A young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge.
The film stars Will Poulter, Asim Chaudhry, and Fionn Whitehead (not to be confused with Finn Wolfhard).
Rumor has it that BANDERSNATCH is a "choose your own adventure" story, and according to the Korean Media Rating Board there is 312 minutes worth of footage to witness, depending on the choices you make along the way. Of course, you wouldn't be able to see all 312 minutes during one viewing – you'd have to watch the film multiple times and make different choices to see different footage.
If BANDERSNATCH actually is a "choose your own adventure" story, anyway.
The trailer can be seen below and features some intriguing hints of thrilling and horrific events.
