Keanu Reeves has had a pretty impressive career, spanning from the BILL & TED stoner comedies, the MATRIX series and, most recently, the JOHN WICK flicks. There are so many fans of these movies that while at New York Comic Con promoting his new movie, REPLICAS, all people wanted to do was ask him the possible new entries in all of those series. Like a true gentleman, Reeves obliged.
While talking at a panel at NYCC, Reeves was asked about the possible MATRIX reboot/remake/prequel being planned by Warner Bros., a question that was met with jeers and boos from fans who disapprove of the idea. Reeves didn’t sound too enthused about the prospect either:
Remaking The Matrix. I don’t know. Maybe it’s… I don’t know anything about it.
Whether he doesn’t know or just doesn’t care to know, it seems Reeves is not down for whatever it is the studio has planned. However, he is excited about the prospect of BIIL & TED 3, which he said that if ever made will find the two failed rockers married and with kids, and that the current title is BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC:
We’re trying. There’s a script out there. We’re just trying to get it made. Show business is tough. It’s a cautionary tale. They’re supposed to save the world. But when we see them they haven’t saved the world and they’re married and have kids. And they’re playing to nobody. … But they have to write the song… and face the music! Hopefully, we’ll make it before I’m 60.
Finally, he addressed the only movie out of these three that Reeves’ is confident is actually being made – JOHN WICK 3 – and he said the logistics of making it are just as daunting as the second one:
John Wick. John Wick’s in trouble! So we’ve been working on it and I think we have some good ideas. Yeah, some really good ideas. But John’s in trouble. Hopefully, we can start shooting that next year. Chad [Stahleski, the director] and I thought it was hard to make a second one. And now we’re like… a third one?!
THE MATRIX reboot is something that may be coming whether fans like it or not, as WB most likely wants to mine the series for any and all franchise potential. Plus. of course, we'll pay to see it. BILL & TED 3 could maybe happen with enough fan support, but I just don't see it in the cards after all these years. Soon Reeves and Alex Winter will be old enough to be grandparents. But JOHN WICK is a definite, what with the second one being so amazing and more than doubling the box office of the first movie. What they come up with for the next one is too much for me to comprehend. I don't care if they make that one after Reeves is 60. If Liam Neeson can do it, so can Reeves.
