It’s no secret that studios are mining their property archives like mad in the hopes of reviving something that people liked once upon a time. If it worked then, maybe it could work again now, with the nosalgia factor being a big key in hopefully luring back that once-game audience.
So why wouldn’t LEGALLY BLONDE 3 be a possibility? The first two movies worked well enough for fans and were modest financial hits for MGM. They even made a Broadway musical based on the first flick. Reese Witherspoon is still a star, so, if they could get her back into the fold for another go-’round, why wouldn’t they explore the idea?
If they did, they’d find that Reese Witherspoon would be down to do another LEGALLY BLONDE sequel, as evidenced by her conversation with Rachel Zoe on FASHIONABLY LATE. When asked about doing a third film, her response was:
A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it. I actually think it’s kind of great right now because we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is, to get more women. And I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office.
That doesn’t mean this is definitely happening, as Witherspoon further clarified that nothing is in the works… at least not yet.
It would be cool. I think we’re ready to see Elle and see what she’s up to lately. That said, I don’t know. Call MGM. I have no idea.
Oh, Reese… I believe MGM may be calling you sooner than you think, and then you’ll get a much clearer idea that they are suddenly very interested in making LEGALLY BLONDE 3 happen.
