Reese Witherspoon may star in Atom Egoyan’s West Memphis Three drama Devil’s Knot

Multiple projects about the events surrounding the West Memphis Three have been in the works of late. Most recently, we got our first look at the trailer for the documentary PARADISE LOST 3: PURGATORY, and then there’s the Amy Berg-directed documentary WEST OF MEMPHIS which is being produced by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh (both of whom were involved in funding private investigations that helped lead to the re-opening of the case).

Then there’s Atom Egoyan (CHLOE) and his narrative drama of the maddening events called DEVIL’S KNOT, an adaptation of the 2003 book by investigative journalist Mara Leveritt, written by Scott Derrickson & Paul Boardman (THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE), and Egoyan. According to Variety, actress Reese Witherspoon has become attached to play “Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the victims. Hobbs originally believed that Echols, Baldwin and Misskelley murdered her son, but as the case dragged on and more details became available, she came to believe that the trio did not commit the heinous crime.”

DEVIL’S KNOT, armed with an under-$20 million budget, is expected to begin shooting in the summer.
