Red, White & Royal Blue: US and UK relations have never been closer in the new trailer for the Prime Video comedy

Uma Thurman stars as the President of the United States in the movie adaptation of the New York Times best seller.

The New York Times best seller is getting a film adaptation at Prime Video. Amazon has just released the trailer for the new comedy Red, White & Royal Blue. The film comes from director Matthew López, who had co-written the screenplay with Ted Malawer, which has been adapted from the novel written by author Casey McQuiston. The movie puts a new spin on international relations and interpersonal politics as a forbidden love blossoms among two very publicly observed individuals.

Red, White & Royal Blue stars an ensemble featuring Taylor Zakhar Perez, Nicholas Galitzine, Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, with Stephen Fry and Uma Thurman. They are also joined by Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth, and Juan Castano.

The official synopsis from Amazon reads,
Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of the President of the United States (Uma Thurman), and Britain’s Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) have a lot in common: Stunning good looks, undeniable charisma, international popularity … and a total disdain for each other. Separated by an ocean, their long-running feud hasn’t really been an issue, until a disastrous—and very public—altercation at a royal event becomes tabloid fodder, driving a potential wedge in U.S./British relations at the worst possible time. Going into damage-control mode, their families and handlers force the two rivals into a staged “truce.” But as Alex and Henry’s icy relationship unexpectedly begins to thaw into a tentative friendship, the friction that existed between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected. Based on Casey McQuiston’s critically acclaimed New York Times best seller, Red, White & Royal Blue marks the feature film co-writing and directing debut of Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López (The Inheritance).

Taylor Zakhar Perez has expressed his excitement about the film, saying it’s “a classic fairy tale with a twist for all generations” and he hopes the audience takes a feeling of joy from the film. He also explains about his character, “Alex is driven by ambition and strives for success in everything he does. He is willing to stand up for what he believes in and is fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He’s also incredibly stubborn, impulsive and impatient.” Perez also explains what makes his chemistry with Galitzine work so well, “It all comes down to trust with your scene partner, and we immediately had it. There had to be a level of vulnerability between us, and we quickly found our way into it.”

The film is produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Casey McQuiston, Michael Riley McGrath, Matthew López and Michael S. Constable are on board as executive producers for the movie adaptation.
