Director Neil Marshall's reboot of the HELLBOY franchise has been rated R for "strong bloody violence and gore throughout, and language", and some of the elements that earned the film that rating are on display in the newly released red band trailer, which can be seen below.
Beyond showing us blood and letting us hear a couple F-bombs, the trailer is also successful at making this new HELLBOY look like an awe-inspiring epic. This appears to play out on a much larger scale than I was expecting… And with so much flame around to cut together with shots of the red stuff, it made me think of that MAD MAX: FURY ROAD line, "My world is fire and blood."
Stranger Things' David Harbour takes on the role of Hellboy in this film, which was written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, Aron Coleite, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. The story finds
Hellboy, along with his team of paranormal researchers, trying to save the world from a medieval sorceress who wants to destroy humankind.
Milla Jovovich is that evil sorceress, Nimue, Queen of Blood. Also in the cast are Ian McShane as Hellboy's mentor Professor Broom; Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio, who can turn into a jaguar; Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, "who retains a connection to the magical world after being kidnapped by fairies as a child"; Penelope Mitchell as the elder witch Ganeida, Sophie Okonedo as the seer Lady Hatton, Alistair Petrie as Lord Adam Glaren of the supernatural mystery investigating Osiris Club, Brian Gleeson as the wizard Merlin, and (maybe) Thomas Haden Church as Lobster Johnson.
The new HELLBOY reaches theatres on April 12th.
