Red-band trailer for The Happytime Murders gives us more NSFW puppet action

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Mere seconds into the latest red-band trailer for THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS and we're treated to the sight of an octopus milking a cow. Trust me, that explanation doesn't even do it justice. I'm not entirely sure how that's supposed to make me feel, but STX Films is definitely going for a WTF approach with their marketing. Set in a world where humans and puppets coexist, THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS follows two detectives, one human (Melissa McCarthy) and one puppet (Bill Barretta), as they team up to solve the brutal murders of the cast of a beloved classic puppet show. Although the new trailer does give us some fresh footage, it puts most of its focus on the Twitter reactions to the film as they go out of their way to exclaim just how insanely inappropriate THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS will be.

The official synopsis for THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS:

No Sesame. All Street. The Happytime Murders is a filthy comedy set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (Melissa McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show.

THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS will hit theaters on August 24th.
