Having completed principal photography two years ago and having gone through reshoots last summer, the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel LEATHERFACE will finally be making its way in front of horror fans this Halloween season. The film will be available exclusively through DirecTV as of September 21st, with a wider VOD and limited theatrical release to follow on October 20th.
In anticipation of the impending release, a red band trailer has arrived online, with our friends over at Bloody-Disgusting getting the exclusive first look.
Directed by INSIDE's Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury from a screenplay written by Seth M. Sherwood, LEATHERFACE tells the following story:
In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface.
Stephen Dorff, Lili Taylor, Vanessa Grasse, Sam Strike, Jessica Madsen, Finn Jones, James Bloor, Nicole Andrews, Julian Kostov, and Sam Coleman star in the film, which has been rated R for Strong Bloody Violence, Disturbing Images, Language, and Some Sexuality/Nudity.
It's the "Strong Bloody Violence" that comes through most of all in the trailer. Bustillo and Maury made a bloody mess of their characters in INSIDE, and they have obviously done the same with the ones in LEATHERFACE.
I'm not too enthusiastic about this prequel idea, but I'll be watching LEATHERFACE as soon as possible simply because I'm a dedicated fan of the 'SAW.
