Last week, it was announced that tomorrow will be the worldwide debut of the trailer for Zack Snyder‘s new film, Rebel Moon. Snyder took to social media to announce that his upcoming sci-fi film will have a special appearance at a video game event in Germany called Gamescom. The filmmaker posted a picture of him in an editing bay with a sneak peek of a frame from the film with the caption, “Adding the final touches. The @RebelMoon teaser trailer will make its global debut live @Gamescom. See you there on Tuesday, August 22. #RebelMoon.”
It was revealed in early 2022 that the Netflix original will be a two-part, grand-scale, space opera. They have since been referred to simply as Rebel Moon Part 1 and Rebel Moon Part 2. Now, What’s on Netflix is reporting that the epic sci-fi has received new titles. Snyder cited Star Wars as a heavy influence and in true Star Wars fashion, each film has been given a chapter label. The first film will now be called, Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire, and the second film will sport the moniker, Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver.
Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire is slated to be released on Netflix on December 22. What’s on Netflix has also learned that Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver is eyeing a release sometime around April 2024. A Child of Fire has also been said to be given a small theatrical run; however, that has not yet been confirmed. Additionally, both films are expected to be given an extended R-rated release.
The plot synopsis revealed in The Hollywood Reporter reads,
“The story is set in motion when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate, the colonists dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.” The screenplay for both Rebel Moon films were co-written by Shay Hatten, who also co-wrote Army of the Dead, and Kurt Johnstad, who had previously collaborated on 300 with Snyder.
