Rebel Moon: Zack Snyder shares new image from the sci-fi epic

After kicking off production back in April, Zack Snyder officially wrapped principal photography on his epic sci-fi fantasy movie Rebel Moon earlier this month, bringing us one step closer to seeing the director’s latest project for Netflix. Snyder has always been generous when it comes to sharing images from the set of his movies, and he took to Vero to share a new Rebel Moon image, which you can check out below.

Although the set featured in the Rebel Moon image is unfinished (likely to be completed with CG), it is most impressive. Zack Snyder mentioned in the captain that Rebel Moon is still in the early stages of the post-production process, but we’ll likely see more tidbits from the movie in the coming months.

Rebel Moon takes place on a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy, which is threatened by the arrival of the armies of a tyrannical regent named Belisarius. The desperate colonists dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighbouring planets to help them make a stand and defend their home. Sofia Boutella will star as the mysterious young woman, with Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Bae Donna, Jena Malone, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Michiel Huisman, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Ed Skrein, Alfonso Herrera, Anthony Hopkins, and more rounding out the stacked cast of Rebel Moon.

The plan is to split Rebel Moon into two epic features, and much like Army of the Dead, there are several potential spin-offs in development should the film do well. Rebel Moon originally began life as a Star Wars pitch a decade ago but has been retooled as an original sci-fi universe. “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan,” Snyder has previously said. “It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.” Netflix hasn’t given Rebel Moon an official release date yet, but the movie is expected to land on the streaming service sometime next year.
