Universal’s take on THE LITTLE MERMAID, with Chloe Moretz in the title role, may finally be closing in on a director.
The up-and-coming Rebecca Thomas (ELECTRICK CHILDREN) is being eyed to sit in the director’s chair for the live-action film based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale. It appears a recent meeting with Moretz, in which the pair hit it off, was enough to bring a deal to a close, giving the movie a filmmaker at the helm, something it has been lacking since Sofia Coppola walked away, citing “creative differences.”
Thomas is attached to adapt John Green’s LOOKING FOR ALASKA, but, with neither film getting the go-ahead just yet, it’ll be a matter of which is ready first that will determine which picture ultimately takes priority on Thomas’ slate.
