Fresh off the heels of yesterday's first look at Timothee Chalamet, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have unveiled a handful of new photos from Denis Villeneuve's ambitious take on Frank Herbert's legendary science-fiction novel, "Dune", and they allow Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem & more to take center stage.
The images come to us via "Vanity Fair" which is writing a sprawling piece about the making of DUNE which has Villeneuve coming off his acclaimed BLADE RUNNER 2049. While the image of Chalamet was a proper tease, these new images offer more insight into Villeneuve's faithful aesthetic, at least in terms of the look, that the director has accomplished through costume and production design. You can check out the new images below:
Filmed in Jordan, DUNE stars Chalamet as Paul Atreides, whose noble family takes ownership of the planet Arakkis. The planet is home to the world's most valuable resource, a drug referred to as "the spice" and it's a resource that grants superhuman abilities. This makes the Atreides family an instant enemy of rival noble families and the indigenous people of Arakkis. Villeneuve decided to bring DUNE into the 21st century because he says "No matter what you believe, Earth is changing, and we will have to adapt. That's why I think Dune, this book, was written in the 20th century. It was a distant portrait of the reality of the oil and capitalism and the exploitation, the overexploitation, of Earth. Today, things are just worse. It's a coming-of-age story, but also a call for action for the youth."
I thought I was excited after yesterday's first-look but these images have me stoked for what Villeneuve is going to bring to the table with this adaptation. Within two days, DUNE has become one of my most highly-anticipated films of the year.
Do YOU like the new images? Are YOU excited for what Villeneuve is going to do? DUNE hits screens on December 18, 2020.
