Reaver X Specter: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon producing sci-fi horror series

Last Updated on August 10, 2021

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's production company Pearl Street Films is teaming up with the Wheelhouse-backed company Portal A to produce a sci-fi action horror drama called Reaver X Specter, which will be "set in Atlanta against the backdrop of an insidious alien invasion disguised as an epidemic".

Created by writer/director Kholi Hicks and developed by Pearl Street's Fanshen Cox and producer Brittany Turner, Reaver X Specter centers on

two rival sisters on the front lines — a paramedic and a CDC microbiologist — who uncover the true nature of the outbreak and must put aside their personal baggage in order to stop the invasion from spreading.

Mike Flanagan's frequent collaborator Jeff Howard, who was a writer on the Flanagan projects Oculus, Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald's Game, and The Haunting of Hill House, is on board as a consulting producer. That brings some strong genre cred to the project.

Founded by Nate Houghteling, Zach Blume, and Kai Hasson, Portal A has been producing "digitally native content" for over ten years, working on shows for YouTube and Snapchat. Houghteling told Deadline that Reaver X Specter is a “perfect encapsulation” of how the company can help draw in a younger audience, as it's

about these timely subjects and about this younger generation and it really resonates with buyers. The savvy production companies from the traditional world understand that when it comes to speaking to this new generation, often times on platforms that are new to them, you can’t fake it."

Pearl Street and Portal A are now taking the show out to broadcasters and streaming platforms. Hopefully it will get picked up quickly, because I like the idea of watching a sci-fi horror series produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

We'll keep you updated on Reaver X Specter as the project moves forward.
