Now that Warner Bros. has revealed their DC movie slate, the stars of the upcoming lineup of potential hits have started talking. Yesterday Jason Momoa talked about AQUAMAN and now Ray Fisher is talking about CYBORG. He’s not a well-known actor just yet; he doesn’t have a feature film credit just yet but is well on his way to sprucing up the resume over the next few years. He will take on BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and JUSTICE LEAGUE. He’s also getting a standalone movie for CYBORG, which is actually news to him too.
Fisher has been working his way up in the theater industry, it’s reported that he gained almost 20 pounds of muscle to play Muhammad Ali in the off-Broadway play Fetch Clay, Make Man last year. One of the people in attendance was Ang Lee, doing some scouting for his next project.
“One of his next projects is a 3-D boxing movie about Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. So he’s scouting for people to play Ali in this film. Ang and I meet to talk about his ideas for the project and it’s all very interesting. Waiting to see where everything goes with that.”
After that, Fisher was getting interest from managers, agents and casting executives and at one point was a “serious contender” for a role in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. He ultimately went with the role of Victor Stone/Cyborg instead.
“I’m a long-game player and didn’t see any of this happening until at least my 40s. It’s a huge honor, but a bit of pressure comes along with it. My mind is just boggled right now. I didn’t know the extent to which DC and WB had planned on taking my character. When I signed on, I just wanted to be part of this world. But that specific information, I found out then and there. I didn’t think I’d be getting my own stand-alone film.”
Fisher has wrapped his work on BVS and wouldn’t say anything about how the Cyborg character plays into the movie. He touched on who he got to meet however:
“I met everyone in the Justice League except Henry Cavill and Ezra Miller. It was surreal. You get this idea of going to work on a Hollywood set as being really stressful and nerve-wracking. But it blew that stereotype away. If they did have stressful times, it wasn’t while I was there.”
With one last statement to hype this DC machine up even more he said:
“Let me tell you, man, people are in for a hell of a treat.”
It sounds like he's having a lot of fun with this role; being thrown into the biggest part of the film industry right now can't be easy for this newcomer so Fisher deserves credit there for sure. Judging by his demeanor and attitude, it couldn't surprise me if we see a lot more of him sooner rather than later.
Get some!
