With production on Peyton Reed's ANT-MAN AND THE WASP set to officially kick off quite soon, The Tracking Board has reported that Randall Park (THE INTERVIEW) has joined the cast of the ANT-MAN sequel. As for who Park will be playing, The Tracking Board claims that he'll be stepping into the role of Jimmy Woo, agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The character of Jimmy Woo goes back quite far into Marvel's history, so far in fact that Yellow Claw, the espionage series in which Woo starred, originated from Atlas Comics, the 1950s predecessor of Marvel. Randall Park is also known for TRAINWRECK, Veep, OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY, and Fresh Off the Boat, the hit ABC series based upon Eddie Huang's memoir of the same name. As for ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will be returning, along with Michael Douglas and Michael Pena. Hannah John-Kamen (Black Mirror) has also joined the cast in an unspecified role. Director Peyton Reed has said that Evangeline Lilly will definitely be more than a supporting player this time around, as ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will be "every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s."
As for what sort of story ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will tell, we're not sure, but the sequel will bring us plenty of fresh tech which will be able to do "new and stranger things." The suits worn by Scott Land (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) won't be all that much different from the ones which we've seen before, but they'll still represent an evolution of Hank Pym's (Michael Douglas) technology. Peyton Reed added:
For Ant-Man specifically, in that first movie, the suit, intentionally so, is kind of a relic. It represents his past, so this is really the new iteration that is the modern version of the tech. This is a whole new suit. It's fun, because it's very specific for the needs of the story. The suits are one thing on the comic page. They are fantastic. When you actually have to make it seem realistic in the real world, in three dimensions, you've got to buy it. It's got to be credible.
ANT-MAN AND THE WASP is set for a July 6, 2018 release.
