There have been countless people attached to a project chronicling Freddie Mercury's involvement with British rock band Queen over the years and finally, barring any unforeseen circumstances, those who have been anxiously awaiting the long-in-development flick may actually get to see it. 20th Century Fox and New Regency have put BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY on the fast track and Deadline reports that Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) has signed on to play Mercury himself.
Deadline also reports that Bryan Singer is currently in talks to direct the film. The most recent script comes from Anthony McCarten ( THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING) and focuses on the band and its iconic lead singer. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is currently being eyed to kick off production next year. Graham King of GK Films, who will still be producing, has been trying to get BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY off the ground for years over at Sony and both Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Whishaw have been attached to play the Queen singer at various points in its long development. In both occasions creative differences kept the project from taking off and Cohen later hinted that the problem was the rest of the Queen band-members as they "wanted to make more of a PG movie about Queen while Cohen was counting on a gritty R-rated tell-all centered around the gifted gay singer."
Sound off Queen fans, do Rami Malek and Bryan Singer have what it takes to finally tell Freddie Mercury's story?
