The Freddie Mercury biopic – BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY – is officially underway, and though some are upset actor Sacha Baron Cohen left the project as the QUEEN frontman, a few pics have proven that actor Rami Malek is a near-perfect replacement. Director Bryan Singer has now posted a new set pic from the movie, and yes, Malik still looks amazing as Mercury, and double yes, this movie will probably be terrific.
The photo was posted by Singer on his Instagram which shows Malek rocking hard at a concert, with the lights and other bandmates in the background and the crowd cheering in front on him. It all makes you want to get in the car, crank some Bohemian Rhapsody and start head-banging right now.
Previous images have shown Malek taking to the stage as Mercury in the biopic, but mostly via leaked set photos, so perhaps Singer will now start showing off more and more set photos and video himself. This is great news for all of us, because Malek is looking dynamite so far, and now it’s all about seeing/hearing is he has the vocal chops to back it up.
I was one of the many who was super bummed when Cohen left the movie and figured they should just let the project die. But, at least on a visual standpoint, Malek has reaffirmed my faith in the project by looking incredible as Mercury. He seems to have embraced the spirit and stage presence of the man with energy, which is key to delivering a performance as one of the greatest frontmen in all of music history. Consider me down for the movie and for Malek, and now you should leave me alone to crank my Queen jams. I don't care about the noise! My neighbor Mrs. Goldstein can bite me!
The movie also stars Aidan Gillen, Mike Myers, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Lucy Boynton and more and is set for December 25, 2018.
