Last week, Sylvester Stallone shared the trailer for RAMBO: LAST BLOOD with an audience at the Cannes Film Festival. Thankfully those of us who weren't at Cannes didn't have to wait very long to see that trailer for ourselves – it has been released online and can be seen below.
Directed by Adrian Grunberg from a screenplay Stallone wrote with Matt Cirulnick, RAMBO: LAST BLOOD is about
Rambo, who has been working on a ranch, crossing the U.S./Mexico border to help find the kidnapped daughter of one of his close friends. He quickly finds himself up against the full might of one of Mexico’s most violent cartels.
Stallone's Rambo is joined in the cast by Adriana Barraza as Rambo's friend Maria; Yvette Monreal as Maria's granddaughter Gabrielle; Sergio Peris-Mencheta as villainous cartel leader Hugo Martinez; Óscar Jaenada as Victor Martinez; Paz Vega as Carmen Delgado, "a reporter who covers the Mexican drug trade and teams up with Rambo after her younger half-sister is kidnapped"; and Joaquin Cosio in an unspecified role.
Not only does the trailer dig into Rambo's tortured, revenge-seeking state of mind, it also shows some fun glimpses of violent moments. While the film deals with the character running into villains in Mexico, the trailer gives away the fact that the bad guys will be raiding Rambo's ranch at some point, only to find that the place has been rigged with booby traps. This has fans jokingly referencing HOME ALONE, and strongly brings to mind the climactic sequence of the James Bond film SKYFALL. Stallone seemed to be inspired by SKYFALL for a moment in THE EXPENDABLES 3 as well, so I have a feeling he really liked that movie.
RAMBO: LAST BLOOD is scheduled to reach theatres on September 20th.
