Terry Gilliam’s THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE has been languishing in a state of perpetual un-death for a long time now, but at the DR. PARNASSUS premiere, he told Empire that the project was not only back on track, but he’s found his star.
“We’re up and running again, we’ve rewritten the script and finally got it back, the budget’s come in… and I think we’ve found our Quixote! But who’s it going to be? Well, I’m not going to tell you, but it’ll start next Spring.”
Earlier in the week Gilliam described the film to us as a “donkey, and now it has three of its legs”, so while there are essential elements still to find, things are looking promising for the once ill-fated project.
Your speculation of who’s primed to play the delusional Quixote is as good as mine. I can’t help but thinking Robert Downey Jr. might make a good show of it, but honestly who knows. Lord knows Gilliam is now buddy-buddy with Colin Farrell, Jude Law and Johnny Depp, so I wouldn’t rule any of them out either.
In any case, it’s nice to see Gilliam going full steam ahead with a project, seeing as his last one was so fraught with disaster and heartache. Get back on that horse and fight those imaginary dragons!
