I don't remember anything as cathartic as the quick demise of the shitty Quibi app. With its terrible UI, baffling design choices (no ability to screenshot? No ability to stream on a desktop?), it's downfall was inevitable (though, how quick the downfall was did hit me by surprise).
However, a few days ago, we reported that Roku was in talks to acquire the rights to Quibi’s library (including critically-acclaimed horror content, ala The Stranger and Fifty States of Fight), lest it fall into obscurity. And now Deadline reports that the deal has now gone through (to the tune of less than $100 million, according to insiders).
Here's what the article said about how to watch the new content:
The programming will be available for free starting later this year. Shows will have advertising, as they did on the $5-a-month Quibi service, and they will be housed on the Roku Channel.
And here's what Quibi Founder Jeffrey Katzenberg had to (probably contractually) say about the deal:
The most creative and imaginative minds in Hollywood created groundbreaking content for Quibi that exceeded our expectations…We are thrilled that these stories, from the surreal to the sublime, have found a new home on The Roku Channel.
So what do you guys think? Fans of old Quibi shows? If so, are you going to check them out on Roku now? Either way, sound off below!
