Quentin Tarantino says The Social Network is the best film of the 2010s

Quentin Tarantino is making it known what film has ruled the 2010s and it's bound to make director David Fincher pretty happy.

In a new interview with "Premiere", Tarantino was asked what would come ahead DUNKIRK on his favorite movies of the decade list. Seemingly without any hesitation, the director/writer bestowed the honor to THE SOCIAL NETWORK. "It's The Social Network, hands down. It is number one because it's the best, that's all! It crushes all the competition."

The only confusing matter at hand is that Tarantino previously put TOY STORY 3 ahead of THE SOCIAL NETWORK in his top 10 of that particular year. Tarantino wasn't pressed further on that TOY STORY 3 praise from ten years ago but it's quite possible he has changed his mind since he made his top ten for that particular year. I do love that Tarantino is pretty vocal about the films he loves because he's without a doubt one of the best to do it and it brings him down to a pretty relatable level knowing he fans out just like the rest of us. Christopher Nolan earns his love too because DUNKIRK was his second favorite of the last decade and he has made his affection for that film known on many occasions.

Tarantino really isn't wrong about THE SOCIAL NETWORK. With one of the best screenplays of the last ten years from acclaimed writer, Aaron Sorkin, THE SOCIAL NETWORK turns something as mundane as the founding of Facebook and turns it into a compelling story about friendship, loyalty, and betrayal. It's a testament to Sorkin's talent as a writer and his words are amplified by the stylized and relentless direction of David Fincher who gives the film a sense of urgency. Every frame is interesting and every scene has a purpose. Adding to the technical achievements are career-defining performances from Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, and Armie Hammer.

THE SOCIAL NETWORK became a huge critical and financial success upon its release. Off of a budget of $40 million, the film went on to gross $224.9 million worldwide and the film won Best Picture from the National Board of Review, National Society of Film Critics, New York Film Critics Circle, and Los Angeles Film Critics Association in 2010. THE SOCIAL NETWORK is only the third film in history, after SCHINDLER's LIST and L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, to sweep the "Big Four" critic's awards. The film went on to win three Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Film Editing but I maintain here and now in 2020 that the film should've also won in the categories of Best Director and Best Picture. Not hating on Tom Hooper and THE KING's SPEECH but THE SOCIAL NETWORK was robbed. Lastly, Andrew Garfield was snubbed for a Best Supporting Actor nomination that year as well. He was nominated for several major awards in that category but came up short when nominations were announced. You would think I worked on the film considering I care so much but no, just a fan.
