NBC is now the first network to hand out a series order to a pilot. It has been announced that the Quantum Leap pilot, which is a reboot of the popular sci-fi drama, has been ordered straight to series at the network. The show will be headlined by Raymond Lee and you can check out a first-look image of the actor from the series below!
Per Deadline, the Quantum Leap pilot seemed to be a big lock for a pickup and it also looks like Raymond Lee will be one of the breakout performers of the new fall TV season. The reboot was the only 2022 drama pilot in consideration for the fall schedule at NBC so that should tell you something about what they thought about the pilot’s execution. There are two other drama pilots to be evaluated at the network and they include Unbroken and Blank Slate. They’re being looked at for a launch in November or midseason. Oddly enough, Scott Bakula is the star of Unbroken and he was the star of the original Quantum Leap series. As of this writing, he is not involved with the reboot.
The Quantum Leap pilot will undergo some reshoots but they have more to do with the direction rather than casting, which is said to also be solid. The series also stars Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee.
Quantum Leap starred Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett, a physicist who involuntarily leaps through spacetime during experiments in time travel, by temporarily taking the place of other people to correct what he consistently discovers were historical mistakes. Dean Stockwell co-starred as Admiral Al Calavicci, Sam’s womanizing, cigar-smoking companion and best friend, who appears to him as a hologram and researches and shapes his opinions of the past. The series started slowly in the ratings and its timeslot was often moved but the show performed well in the 18-49 demographic. The final episode was watched by 13 million total viewers.
Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt wrote and executive produced the pilot while Martin Gero, Deborah Pratt, and Quantum Leap creator/EP Don Bellisario serve as producers. The reboot is set in the present day and it has been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. It is now time for a new team to be assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.
