Dennis Quaid has signed on to star in the drama biopic THE EXPRESS. Originally written by veteran TV writer Scott Williams and most recently rewritten by BLOOD
DIAMOND scribe Charles Leavitt, the film tells the story of Ernie Davis, the first black player to ever win the Heisman Trophy. Unfortunately for Davis, however, he was afflicted with leukemia and succumbed to the cancer at the age of twenty-three so he was never afforded the opportunity play professionally. Quaid will play Ben Schwartzwalder, the head coach of Syracuse University, where Davis established himself as a formidable ass-kicker of the highest order. KISS THE GIRLS and RUNAWAY JURY director Gary Fleder will direct with production scheduled for March. Quaid is currently filming the romantic comedy SMART PEOPLE and can next be seen in the drama/thriller VANTAGE POINT.
