Purging is endorsed in The Purge: Election Year TV spot

I really love how the latest entry in the PURGE franchise is acknowledging the fact that it's coming out in an election year. The concept has always involved the nightmarish politics of a future America, so it's perfect that its characters are dealing with an election at the same time as we're dealing with one in reality.

A new TV spot for THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR so fully embraces the "election year" aspect that it doesn't even feature moments from the film itself. Instead, it's styled just like the real political ads that it will be airing alongside on television networks in the U.S., the sort of ads that viewers are going to be pummeled with until election day in November. In this ad, people happily admit that they have purged in an effort to keep American great.

Written and directed by James DeMonaco, the man behind both previous PURGE films, ELECTION YEAR stars Frank Grillo (reprising his Punisher-esque role from THE PURGE: ANARCHY), Elizabeth Mitchell, Mykelti Williamson, Raymond J. Barry, and Edwin Hodge.

The story: 

It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night.  Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent.  But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn… or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR is set to be released on July 1st.
