Puppet noir Happytime Murders finally gets release date

I've actually been keeping a close eye on the development of HAPPYTIME MURDERS. It's a dark noir set in a world where puppets and humans co-exist, and is about two clashing detectives – one human and one puppet – who are forced to work together to try to find out who is brutally murdering the former cast of “The Happytime Gang”, a beloved classic puppet show. It's just such a neat idea, even if it won't be the first R-rated parody of THE MUPPETS (i.e. MEET THE FEEBLES) nor the first to add a noir aesthetic to children's properties (ala WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?). However, I dug both those movies, and I think it is different enough to stand on its own, so I've still been looking forward to it.

The film has been in development hell for over a decade, but after Melissa McCarthy took the role of the human detective (and also attached herself as producer), the film is finally moving forward. Now Brian Henson (yes, as in the son of Jim Henson) will direct, and the film will reach theaters August 17th, 2018. Yay!

So what do you Schmoes think? You down for some puppet noir? Either way, sound off below!
