S. Craig Zahler's BONE TOMAHAWK featured some nasty gore effects, and it sounds like the filmmaker has written some more memorable moments of bloodshed into his screenplay for PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH.
Special effects artist Tate Steinsiek has said they've been "spraying gallons of blood everywhere" while filming the franchise reboot, and that has been confirmed by the folks over at Bloody Disgusting, who were lucky enough to be able to visit the filming location. B-D reported back with images of sets covered in blood – like the one I have included below.
Actress Barbara Crampton, who returns to the world of PUPPET MASTER with THE LITTLEST REICH after making a cameo in the original PUPPET MASTER movie, also talked up the film's bloodiness in posts to her social media accounts. Crampton said she was "having a bloody fun time" while making the movie, "accent on bloody", and a couple days later informed fans that "My entire body is bloody."
PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH is being directed by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund. Zahler's script focuses on
a recently divorced young man who discovers a mint condition Blade doll in his deceased brother’s closet and plans to sell the toy at a convention in Oregon celebrating the 30th anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. All hell breaks loose at the Postville Lodge during the auction when a strange force animates all of the various puppets throughout the convention as they go on a bloody killing spree.
Crampton's co-stars include Thomas Lennon, Udo Kier, Michael Paré, Jenny Pellicer, Nelson Franklin, Alex Beh, Tina Parker, Skeeta Jenkins, and Charlyne Yi.
While people, places, and things are getting soaked with blood on the set of PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH, the film's executive producer Charles Band is putting the finishing touches on the latest sequel in the original franchise, PUPPET MASTER: AXIS TERMINATION. This is one instance when a reboot doesn't mean the previous series has come to an end.
