Punky Brewster is all grown up in first sequel series teaser trailer

NBCUniversal's streaming service, Peacock, launched on Xfinity X1 and Flex yesterday before being available nationally on July 15 and the streamer has released a slew of teaser trailers for some of their content, including the first look at the new Punky Brewster sequel series.

Punky Brewster is all grown up in this ten-episode sequel series to the 1984 NBC sitcom. Produced by UCP and Universal Television, original series star Soleil Moon Frye reprises her role as the titular character, alongside Cherie Johnson, reprising her role as Punky’s best friend, and new stars Quinn Copeland, Lauren Donzis, Oliver De Los Santos, and Noah Cottrell. Freddie Prinze Jr. guest stars in the pilot as Punky’s ex-husband. The new series follows former foster child Punky Brewster, who is now all grown up and raising kids of her own. Like all Hollywood companies, Peacock’s slate was impacted by the coronavirus pandemic-related production shutdown. As a result, a “significant” amount of Peacock’s originals will and could be pushed into 2021. Much like the Saved by the Bell reboot, the hope is to have Punky Brewster ready for a 2020 launch.
