Production on Maze Runner: The Death Cure to resume in February

Maze Runner: The Death Cure Dylan O'Brien

Earlier this year Dylan O'Brien sustained some serious injuries on the set of MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE, which is to be the final film in the franchise based upon James Dashner's YA series, and production was shut down to give the star time to recover. It's still not clear exactly what happened to cause the accident, but it's been said that Dylan O'Brien was pulled off of a moving vehicle unexpectedly and was hit by another vehicle. Production was expected to resume once again in May, but when it became clear that O'Brien would need more time to recover, the entire project was suspended indefinitely which allowed the cast and crew to move on.

It now seems that both Dylan O'Brien and the studio feel confident enough to set a date to get back to it as Deadline is reporting that production on MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE is scheduled to begin again in February of 2017. Wes Ball will return to direct THE DEATH CURE which, thankfully, will NOT be split into two parts as in the trend. Having never read the books upon which the franchise is based I didn't know quite what to expect from THE MAZE RUNNER, but I wound up being pleasantly surprised. I'm glad we'll soon get to see the conclusion of the series and, most of all, that Dylan O'Brien seems to have made a complete recovery.

MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE is set to hit theaters on January 12, 2018.
