Production of The Stand has brought the apocalypse to Vancouver

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Director Josh Boone's ten episode CBS All Access mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's classic, epic novel The Stand has been filming for over a month at this point, but things look like they've gotten really fun over the last week.

The city of Vancouver has warned residents that The Stand is currently filming in the midst of the city, with certain blocks having been given an apocalyptic makeover, complete with abandoned vehicles and dummies made up to look like dead and deformed victims of the super flu. Residents were informed that Boone and his crew have been filming sequences that involve

highly visible graphic content including dead bodies, trash & debris, shouting of course language & gunfire. Please do not be alarmed if you’re in the area."

Of course, since this is all happening right there on city streets, that means bystanders have been able to snap some interesting pictures and capture some moments on video. I've collected some of the images below.

Stephen King's novel, which can be purchased at THIS LINK, was an

apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old other Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

The new mini-series adaptation stars James Marsden as Stu Redman, Amber Heard as Nadine Cross, Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail, Greg Kinnear as Glen Bateman, Odessa Young as Frannie Goldsmith, Henry Zaga as Nick Andros, Jovan Adepo as Larry Underwood, Owen Teague as Harold Lauder, Brad William Henke as Tom Cullen, Nat Wolff as Lloyd Henreid, Katherine McNamara as Julie Lawry, Hamish Linklater as Dr. Ellis, Eion Bailey as Teddy Weizak, Daniel Sunjata as Cobb, Heather Graham as Rita Blakemoor, Alexander Skarsgard as Randall Flagg, and Marilyn Manson in an unspecified role.

Manson and Shooter Jennings have also recorded a cover of The Doors' "The End" that will be used in the show.

The scripts for the ten episodes have been written by Boone, Benjamin Cavell, Jill Killington, and King's son Owen King. Stephen King has also written a new ending for the story that will go beyond the events of the book and make up a substantial part of the final episode.

The Stand was previously turned into a mini-series by director Mick Garris back in 1994. That one can be purchased HERE.

The '94 mini-series had a major impact on my childhood and The Stand may be my favorite novel, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the new adaptation will be like.

The Stand is being produced by CBS Television Studios. Boone and Cavell are executive producing the show with Roy Lee, Jimmy Miller, and Richard P. Rubinstein. Will Weiske and Miri Yoon are co-executive producers, and Knate Lee, Jill Killington, and Owen King are producers.
