Production has officially begun on new Halloween movie

Plenty of horror movies get the sequel-reboot-prequel-revamp treatment, and HALLOWEEN is no different. This October we will be getting the newest edition of the franchise with Jamie Lee Curtis returning as Laurie Strode to face off against Michael Myers once again. The release date isn’t all that far off, and the movie has officially begun production in South Carolina.

The announcement that filming has begun came via a social media post (via Blumhouse Productions) showing a familiar-looking pumpkin image. Danny McBride and David Gordon Green are writing the new movie, with Green directing and series creator John Carpenter advising:

The movie takes place forty years after the events of the first movie, with Laurie Strode still haunted by the events that happened to her all those decades ago. Judy Greer will be playing her daughter, Karen, with Nick Castle returning as The Shape/Michael Myers. Carpenter has said the movie will not just be another sequel in the franchise, saying it picks up after the first two movies as if the other sequels never happened.

This new HALLOWEEN movie will surely be one of the more talked-about films of the year, especially as we get closer to fall. Horror movies have been making serious money recently, with September’s IT becoming the biggest horror movie ever. The original film is still hailed as one of the greatest horror movies ever, with Myers considered one of cinema’s most iconic villains. If the movie succeeds at bringing the series back to glory, it will be a monster hit. If not, then maybe we should look at turning another famous holiday into a horror series. Easter has some potential.

HALLOWEEN hits theaters October 19.
