One of the most successful horror franchises of all time is James Wan's THE CONJURING UNIVERSE. From hits like THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2 to ANNABELLE and ANNABELLE: CREATION, the franchise keeps on snatching up the genre cash at the box-office. And today we have some sad news at it seems that fellow Conjuring Universe producer Peter Safran seems to think that James Wan aka the Godfather behind it all is done directing the horror films themselves. Specifically, producer Peter Safran says:
I don't think [James Wan] will [direct another Conjuring movie]. That’s just me. My instinct is that he won’t. I think he really left everything out on the field with Conjuring 2. Just being by his side as he made that movie, I feel that he put everything that he'd learned up to that point into that film, from character development to scares to crafting sequences, just everything. I love the movie and I think that he felt like he did it, he really showed people exactly what he wanted to show them. The skills of a filmmaker telling a great story.
He continues:
I would be surprised if he ended up doing another one, but you never know. Guys like James, for him scares, it's in their blood. They need an outlet for it at some point, so maybe he is getting it as a producer. There is something very compelling about sitting there just wanting to scare the shit out of people.
While this is pretty sad news, it makes a bit of sense considering Wan has now moved on to mega-budget movies such as AQUAMAN and 7 FAST 7 FURIOUS (or whatever it was called). Plus the Conjuring Universe seems to be in good hands with directors like David F. Sandberg (LIGHTS OUT, SHAZAM!) and Corin Hardy (THE NUN) lending their considerable talents behind the scenes.
The next official entry in the Conjuring Universe will be writer-director Gary Dauberman's ANNABELLE COMES HOME. Here's the plot rundown for that film if you missed it thus far:
Determined to keep Annabelle from wreaking more havoc, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren bring the possessed doll to the locked artifacts room in their home, placing her “safely” behind sacred glass and enlisting a priest’s holy blessing. But an unholy night of horror awaits as Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in the room, who all set their sights on a new target—the Warrens’ ten-year-old daughter, Judy, and her friends.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have signed on to appear in the new film reprising their THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2 roles of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren along with Mckenna Grace as their daughter Judy, Madison Iseman is her babysitter cousin and Katie Sarife (Supernatural, Girl Meets World, Youth & Consequences) as her best friend who gets wrapped up in the evil shenanigans as well. The movie is all set to wreak more havoc within your local multiplex come June 28th, 2019. How excited are YOU? Let us know below!
