One has to assume that the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel LEATHERFACE will be released at some point. The movie was filmed almost a year and a half ago, with some reshoots taking place earlier this year, the MPAA has given it its R rating, distribution is secured at Lionsgate. And yet there has been no word on a release, no trailer, no clips. All we've had to go on so far are some stills and behind-the-scenes images on social media.

While the wait for release news continues, producer Christa Campbell has been kind enough to share a few more of those behind-the-scenes images on her Twitter account. There's a shot of an actress on a monitor, a couple actors relax in the trunk of an old car between takes, and then there's the shot that I find most interesting, a picture of directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury overseeing a scene in which a girl wearing a skirt and Converse walks through a barn…

I would be anxious to see another entry in the CHAINSAW franchise regardless, but the fact that the directors of INSIDE were at the helm of this one boosts my anticipation level even more. I need a release date!

Written by Seth M. Sherwood, LEATHERFACE tells what happens when

a young nurse is kidnapped by a group of violent teens who escape from a mental hospital and take her on a road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind, molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.

Sam Strike, Vanessa Grasse, Jessica Madsen, James Bloor, Sam Coleman, Jessica Madsen, Lilli Taylor, Stephen Dorff, and Finn Jones star.

Jones has gone on to land the lead role in the Marvel / Netflix series Iron Fist, which will be making its debut on the streaming service on March 17, 2017. Maybe Lionsgate could time the release of LEATHERFACE to try to cash in on the Iron Fist hype. One can hope.
