Producer assures us World War Z 2 will happen someday

WORLD WAR Z producer Jeremy Kleiner just received this year's David O. Selznick Achievement Award at the Producers Guild Awards. And the producer made sure to let us all know that he still loves Max Brooks’ book and doesn’t feel like the worldwide zombie war is done and over with. When asked if WORLD WAR Z 2 will ever be a reality, Kleiner said:

Someday. We love Max Brooks’ book. We love the universe of it. It doesn’t feel like the World War Z is done and over with.

WORLD WAR Z 2 seemed good to go last year with Dennis Kelly (Utopia) rewriting Steven Knight's script and the movie aiming for a summer shoot after director David Fincher finished MINDHUNTERS season 2. Hell, the film had even gone so far as to staff up for a six-month stint in Atlanta and a lengthy shoot across five different countries. No one knows for sure why the film was canceled, but most people seem to think it has to do with the fact that the original movie was released six years ago now, and that Fincher's budget was just too much. Maybe we'll hear the real story of what happened in a few years when someone makes a Netflix Original Documentary about it or something.

Here's the synopsis for the original film:

When former U.N. investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his family get stuck in urban gridlock, he senses that it's no ordinary traffic jam. His suspicions are confirmed when, suddenly, the city erupts into chaos. A lethal virus, spread through a single bite, is turning healthy people into something vicious, unthinking and feral. As the pandemic threatens to consume humanity, Gerry leads a worldwide search to find the source of the infection and, with luck, a way to halt its spread.

Marc Forster directed the original movie from a screenplay written by Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, and Damon Lindelof based on a story by Carnahan and J. Michael Straczynski based on the book World War Z by Max Brooks. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Ian Bryce produced the film which starred Pitt, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, and Matthew Fox. Buy the original movie on Blu-ray RIGHT HERE.
