Prizefighter trailer: Russell Crowe and Matt Hookings star in a hard-hitting 18th-century boxing drama

Put up your dukes and get ready to dance around a squared circle as Prime Video sounds the bell for an official Prizefighter trailer. The hard-hitting footage includes plenty of raw knuckles and bruised egos as fighters battle for pride, legacy, and honor.

Here’s the official synopsis for Prizefighter:

In 1800 Jem Belcher became the youngest ever world boxing champion. Belcher, played by Matt Hookings, dominated his early fights with his unique skill, speed, and scientific approach and soon became Champion of England, a natural talent oozing with charm, style, and grace. After a life-changing accident risked ending his career forever, he begins a long, grueling road to recovery which eventually sees him compete in a death-defying standoff – known only as The Forgotten Fight of the Century – to reclaim his title once and for all as England’s youngest boxing champion.

The Prizefighter trailer features Russell Crowe (Thor: Love and ThunderUnhinged), Matt Hookings (Alice Through the Looking GlassEdge of Tomorrow), and Ray Winstone (The DepartedSexy Beast), with Marton Csokas (The Last Duel), Jodhi May (The Witcher), Julian Glover (The Empire Strikes Back) and Steven Berkoff (Octopussy) also starring in this awe-inspiring rags-to-riches biopic.

In addition to the Prizefighter trailer, Prime Video also unveiled a gallery of photos from the new film:

Daniel Graham (Opus ZeroThe Obscure Life of the Grand Duke of Corsica) directs from a script penned by Hookings. The Prizefighter trailer introduces plenty of drama to the story as Jem Belcher defies expectations and the limits of the human body to become the boxing champion of England. It will take a lot more than blood, sweat, and tears to reach his goal, and not everyone is hoping he succeeds.

Prizefighter will begin streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service this summer on July 22, 2022.
