Sometimes all you need is a high-concept gimmick to grab someone’s attention, and dinosaurs in the Vietnam War certainly qualifies. THR has reported that Luke Sparke is set to write and direct a movie adaptation of Ethan Pettus’ Primitive War book series.
Set in Vietnam in 1968, the Primitive War movie will “follow a search and rescue team known as Vulture Squad sent to an isolated jungle valley to reveal the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon. As they hunt through the primordial depths of the valley and the casualties mount, the Vulture Squad members must embrace their savage instincts to survive the horrors they face, including the ultimate Apex predators, dinosaurs.” I won’t lie — I’m down for this. Development on the Primitive War movie is moving forward with casting expected to get underway soon for a shoot later this year.
“Dinosaurs in the Vietnam war? What’s not to love about that concept?!” Luke Sparke told THR in a statement. “When I first heard about the books, I loved the ideas and concepts Ethan brought into them, and we’re shaping our film version into an exciting survival-horror film.” Primitive War author Ethan Pettus added, “It’s a dream come true. Primitive War is a story that’s larger than life, and I think Luke and his team can make it into a cinematic masterpiece.” The first novel was followed by Primitive War II: Animus Infernal and the upcoming Primitive War III: Aeon Ouroboros. Luke Sparke is best known for writing and directing Occupation, an Australian sci-fi film about a group of survivors fighting back against an alien invasion force. A sequel, Occupation: Rainfall, was released last year.
Our next dose of dinosaur action on the big screen will arrive with the release of Jurassic World: Dominion on June 10, 2022.
