Prey producer John Davis believes the Predator franchise can go on for 100 years

Producer John Davis has been with the Predator franchise since the beginning, and during a recent interview with Variety he made it clear that he believes the franchise is going to continue for a long time to come. So now that the latest entry, Prey, has proven to be a hit for the Hulu streaming service, here’s hoping we’ll be hearing more about plans for future Predator movies very soon – because Davis is clearly up for anything. Including an Alien vs. Predator 3.

Davis told Variety,

The alien is an iconic creature. A comic monster, if you will. Monster movies get made again and again and again and again. Look how many Dracula movies have been made. Or the Wolf Man. I mean, you can go through these iconic monsters or creatures. Once you establish them, people know them, understand the mythology of them and want to see them again in different situations. And I think both Alien and Predator on the 20th Century Fox side are their most mythic monsters. These are 20th Century Fox’s most mythic creatures.”

The producer feels that Prey, which is set in the 1700s, has revitalized the Predator series because

People just need a fresh reinterpretation of this franchise from time to time. And if they have it, it will survive 100 years.”

When asked “What is next for the Predator? Could there be a Civil War-era Predator? How about Ancient Rome? Predator vs. Pirates?”, Davis replied,

Well, maybe there’s an origin origin story. Right? Maybe there’s another Alien vs. Predator story in a different situation. And maybe there’s a new modern-day version. And maybe there’s something somewhere in between. I think this character can show up throughout history.”

Davis has referred to Prey as an “origin story”, so by “origin origin story” I think he means a movie that would be set even earlier than the 1700s. I agree with him that the future is bright for the Predator, as it’s a creature that offers endless possibilities. It can show up in different time periods, on different planets. It can battle the Alien Xenomorph – and I’m still holding on to hope for an Alien vs. Predator movie that would take place in the future, on a jungle planet, with Colonial Marines. I want to see a whole lot more Predator, so I’m glad to hear that Davis is on board to keep bringing the creature back to the screen.
