The idea writer Branden Kramer came up with for the 2012 short film WEBCAM was clearly a winner. Not only has the eight minute short, which Kramer co-directed with three others, racked up over six million views on Vimeo, but he was also able to expand the concept into his feature directorial debut, which Sony Pictures just picked up the worldwide distribution rights to.
Entitled RATTER, Kramer’s movie stars Ashley Benson of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS as
a graduate student living alone in New York City, where she’s watched by a “ratter” who stalks her by hacking into all of her personal technology, eventually going from virtual stalking to physical stalking.
Kramer’s WEBCAM co-directors Stefan Haverkamp, Jan Jaworski, and Thomas Kropp served as executive producers on RATTER alongside Michael Maher, Sarah Shepard, Matt Levin and Evelynda Rivera. The film was produced by David Bausch, Jamie Zelermyer, and Ben Browning, and financed by Start Media.
In addition to Benson, the cast includes Matt McGorry, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Michael William Freeman, and Karl Glusman.
The story could definitely provide a solid foundation for a thriller, and a feature debut getting picked up by Sony is impressive. This sounds like it could be worth checking out once Sony schedules a release date.
I keep being told PRETTY LITTLE LIARS is something to check out as well, but I haven’t made that leap yet. Someday…
