If you've been enjoying PREACHER on AMC thus far and were saying the Rosary in the hopes of bringing about a second season for the series, your prayers have been answered. PREACHER has officially been renewed.
It wasn't really a difficult decision for AMC to make, as PREACHER has ranked as the #2 new series on cable this year in both the 18-49 and 25-54 age demographics. New episodes lay claim to an average of 3.3 million viewers each when you factor in delayed viewing of three days… and all of that is while running opposite GAME OF THRONES on Sunday nights. Now that winter has come and gone on hiatus, AMC is looking to grab even more eyeballs, which is why they have a marathon scheduled for Thursday night to lead into the Episode Six on Sunday.
“Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” AMC president Charlie Collier said. “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”
Season Two would expand the episode order from 10 to 13, so that bears watching. When THE WALKING DEAD made a similar leap, I found that they encountered too many episodes where the story spun its wheels rather than progressing in order to fill out the episode count. Hopefully, PREACHER doesn't run into that and has plenty of plot to go around as it heads into the second half of Season One and then onto a sophomore run in 2017.
