I still haven't watched the ten episode first season of AMC's Preacher, an adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic book series that was developed for the small screen by Sam Catlin, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen. A fan of the comic, I was looking forward to the show before it started airing last year, but then my interest was dampened when I heard the events of the show are far removed from what Ennis wrote. I was hoping for something more faithful.
I suppose I'll watch the show at some point, but probably not in time to be caught up for season 2, which is now casting.
Preacher follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), who is inhabited by the renegade spawn of an angel and demon and gains the power to control people with just a word. The series’ second season premieres this summer and follows Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) as they embark on a road trip to find God, dealing with issues both worldly and otherworldly along the way.
So far, six new cast members have signed on to join Cooper, Negga, and Gilgun in the second season. Three of them are series regulars – Noah Taylor, Pip Torrens, and Julie Ann Emery – and three of them will have recurring roles – Malcolm Barrett, Ronald Guttman, and Justin Prentice.
No details were revealed about any of the characters this group will be playing, but it is a proven fact that Noah Taylor (pictured above) is always a great addition to any cast.
