Powerpuff Girls & Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends animated series reboots announced

Craig McCraken is at it again, folks! The Emmy-winning creator of The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends is joining forces with Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe to present new animated versions of both series.

The Powerpuff Girls reboot revisits and expands upon the world of the original series. The initial series debuted on Cartoon Network in 1998 and lasted for 78 action-packed episodes. The Powerpuff Girls centers on three sugar-coated superheroes – Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup – who face off against dastardly villains, including HIM, the Gangreen Gang, Sedusa, Mojo Jojo, and more. The Powerpuff Girls kick butt and fight crime, all before bedtime.

A live-action version of The Powerpuff Girls is in the works at The CW. After passing on the pilot and reworking the script, CW’s Powerpuff Girls is looking to recast after delays forced the intended lineup off the project.

As for Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, the preschool animated series returns with a new cast of imaginary friends that promise to be “as silly and playful as the original bunch.” The original series ran six seasons from 2004-2009 on Cartoon Network. The story revolves around imaginary friends coexisting with humans and a boy named Mac whose mother pressures him to abandon his imaginary companions. After learning about an orphanage dedicated to housing abandoned imaginary friends, Mac and his friend Bloo continue their adventures together.

Animation, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. “Along with his unparalleled sense of fun and imagination, he’s bringing two of his greatest works in The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and we are so excited for these characters to be a part of the new legacy taking shape at the studio.”

McCracken serves as creator, producer, and director, with Sarah Fell, VP of Original Kids and Family Animation for Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, overseeing both animated projects.
