Poster Round-Up: First Jack Reacher poster, three stunning alternates for Killing Them Softly, and Paperboy character posters

JACK REACHER has the potential to be really good or really forgettable and this new poster doesn’t help matters. From those who have read the Lee Child novels that JACK REACHER is based on, Reacher is a beast of a man. When I see Tom Cruise, I do not think beast. That does not mean that Cruise cannot be a badass, but I just don’t get a good vibe from the teaser or this poster.

You can tell absolutely nothing about JACK REACHER from this poster aside from the fact he is played by Tom Cruise and he has red blood. Is the brooding visage supposed to portray confidence or the lack of emotion? Not having read the novel, I have no idea if this fits with anyone’s expectations. As a movie fan, I feel no different from this than I did after the teaser.

Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, JACK REACHER still has potential, we just need to see more. With a cast that includes Rosamund Pike, David Oyelowo, Richard Jenkins, Alexia Fast, Robert Duvall, Jai Courtney, and Werner Herzog, how could it be bad? We will find out when it opens on December 21st.

They are simultaneously retro and modern and all visualize the recurring theme in the movie of the American Dream.

KILLING THEM SOFTLY was in contention for the Palm D’Or at the recent Cannes Film Festival and has been receiving accolades ever since. Lee Daniels’ THE PAPERBOY looks like a nice trashy noir movie. The stories floating around about the scene in which Nicole Kidman pisses on Zack Efron is enough to pique my interest. Any movie will stars that is willing to push the envelope with something like that is worth checking out. I have a very high tolerance for gross, but to each their own.

These character posters, like the KILLING THEM SOFTLY alternates, really evoke the retro vibe the movie emanates. Efron, Kidman, Cusack, and McConaughey all look greasy, sweaty, and down right perfect.

THE PAPERBOY opened in limited release on October 5th.
