A new poster for the upcoming TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE prequel LEATHERFACE has made its way online, an image that drives home the fact that the film will be showing us how a teenage boy evolves into the horror icon we've known and loved for more than forty years.
We've seen Leatherface become Leatherface before, but the events of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING are the in the remake continuity, while this one is in continuity with the original 1974 film.
Directed by INSIDE's Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury from a screenplay by Seth M. Sherwood, LEATHERFACE tells the following story:
A young nurse is kidnapped by a group of violent teens who escape from a mental hospital and take her on a road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind, molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.
The violent teens, one of whom will be wielding a chainsaw and wearing a mask of human flesh by the end of the film, are played by Sam Strike, James Bloor, Sam Coleman, and Jessica Madsen, with Vanessa Grasse as the young nurse and Stephen Dorff as the deranged lawman. Also in the cast are Lili Taylor and Finn Jones.
LEATHERFACE is currently in post-production and although a release date has yet to be set, we can probably expect to see it sometime in 2016.
I'm wary of the approach this one is taking, but INSIDE is amazing and I'm holding that Bustillo and Maury will deliver something cool with this concept. And I can't help it, even when the story idea doesn't sound all that good to me, I'm always looking forward to seeing more Leatherface.
