I'm unfamiliar with the title METRO 2033, but apparently it's both a book (actually, a series of books) and a video game, the latter being a very successful first-person shooter. Add another piece of media to the pile: METRO 2033 is about to become a feature film, too.
Mega-producer Michael De Luca, who has titles like THE SOCIAL NETWORK, MONEYBALL, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS and FIFTY SHADES OF GREY to his recent credit, will be overseeing the film adaptation via his Michael De Luca Productions shingle. He'll be teaming with Solipsist Films to create a potential new franchise in the vein of MAD MAX and THE HUNGER GAMES.
The game's synopsis:
In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age. The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.
MGM took a crack at adapting METRO 2033 a few years ago, but it didn't take. With studios always in a frenzy to kickstart a new franchise, don't expect this to go away anytime soon.
