Details have been sparse on Christopher Nolan's latest, which is pretty much par for the course regarding the ever ambitious director. That's about to change as we now have some details on the man's World War II picture, DUNKIRK, that's already set for release on July 21, 2017. As Variety is reporting, the film will follow the (surprise) Dunkirk evacuation, also known as Operation Dynamo or The Miracle of Dunkirk.
Operation Dynamo was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, France, between 27 May and 4 June 1940, during the second World War. Large numbers of Belgian, British, and French troops were cut off and surrounded by the German army during the Battle of France. After a total of 8 days, 338,226 soldiers were rescued by a hastily assembled fleet of over 800 boats.
Joining Christopher Nolan on this WWII picture will be Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy, among an ensemble of "unknowns." Nolan will also be shooting DUNKIRK on IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film (a la HATEFUL EIGHT). Sounds like we're going to see a war picture like never before!
Christopher Nolan's DUNKIRK will open on July 21, 2017.
