Porn website extends offer to the Wachowskis to fund 3rd season of Sense8

Despite an exceptionally passionate fan-base, Netflix wound up cancelling Sense8 after just two seasons, likely due to low viewership combined with hefty production costs. The series, which was created by Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski, and J. Michael Straczynski, followed eight strangers from different parts of the world who suddenly became "sensates," human beings who are mentally and emotionally linked. Filmed almost entirely on location in various cities around the world, the ambitious series explored subjects such as identity, sexuality, politics, and more, and was also praised for its use of LGBTQ characters and themes. Fans weren't content to let Netflix's cancellation slide, and campaigned furiously on behalf of the show, which led to the streaming service later announcing a two-hour series finale which is set to debut in 2018. It may not be another season, but it will hopefully offer closure to both characters and fans.

However, it turns out that the Wachowskis have received an offer to fund a complete third season of Sense8 from an unlikely source, a porn website. In an open letter, which you can read below, xHamster offered their services to bring the series back properly, and not as a porn parody either.

Even if the Wachowskis are agreeable to this arrangement, it wouldn't be quite so simple for the series to jump from Netflix to xHamster, but apparently the website is very serious about their offer. ScreenCrush reached out to xHamster for additional clarification:

We’re huge admirers of the show, as are many of our fans. Obviously, for both us and the Wachowskis this would be a big move, and the logistics would need to be worked out. This isn’t just about switching a network, this is about switching the way a show is delivered, and thus how the show is produced and what is produced. Does it open up possibilities for the storyline if the show is moved away from a mainstream corporation and onto a platform that’s not sex-phobic? Does a mainstream audience feel comfortable moving to a platform known for adult? What we admire about the Wachowskis, and about the show itself is that it takes risks. I think that we’re a nascent network, and I’d love to hear what they would do with us.

Will it happen? I doubt it, but with so many different avenues for television to be seen nowadays, why not a porn website? Let us know your thoughts on this development in the comments and whether you'd be open to watching Sense8 on xHamster.
