Pom Klementieff cast in mystery Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 role

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

A key GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 role has just been cast and, in keeping with Marvel tradition, it's all being kept very hush hush. THR reports that Pom Klementieff (OLDBOY) has nabbed a role in James Gunn's sequel after a wide search for a mystery role which reportedly called for an Asian actress. Klementieff did several rounds of chemistry reads but at the moment, we haven't the foggiest as to who she may be playing in the sequel. The actress has primarily acted in French films but she made her Hollywood debut in Spike Lee's OLDBOY remake as Haeng-Bok, the bodyguard of Sharlto Copley's character.

Variety's report on this news added one more interesting GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 tidbit; apparently both Marvel and James Gunn wanted Matthew McConaughey for the role of the villain, but before you start celebrating the Marvel McConaissance, you should know that the actor recently passed on the role. If Marvel and Gunn were pursuing McConaughey, it seems to suggest that the GUARDIANS VOL. 2 villain may be quite a bit different from what we've seen before. I was already imagining Star-Lord struggling to understand why the villain with the whispery Texas drawl keeps taking his shirt off. Variety's sources say that a decision on the casting of the villain should come within the next few weeks as GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is set to begin production in early 2016.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 opens on May 5, 2017.

Any guesses on the identity of the mystery role Pom Klementieff just scored? And while we're at it, suggest a Marvel role which would be a good fit for Matthew McConaughey.
